Together, we can…

We are an organization of community volunteers that lead, inspire, and mobilize the organized capacity of people to care for one another. Our focus is on education, financial stability, and health — the building blocks for a good quality of life and a strong community — for each person in our five-county footprint.

OUR MISSION

The United Way fights for the Health, Educational, and Financial Stability of every person in Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union Counties. We do this by addressing the root causes of social issues and serving as a leader, partner, and catalyst to identify and address areas of need by engaging communities to develop long-term social change.

OUR VISION

Susquehanna Valley United Way is an organization of community volunteers that lead, inspire, and mobilizes individuals and contributes to providing solutions to essential health and human services issues to improve the quality of life for people in our counties.

OUR DIVERSITY, EQUITY, & INCLUSION POLICY

The United Way recognizes diversity, equity, and inclusion as core values that are critical success factors in achieving United Way’s mission in Columbia and Montour Counties and surrounding communities.

All persons affiliated with and served by both the United Way and its Community Partners shall reflect, without exclusion, the many faces and walks of life that proudly make up our communities with respect to age; race; religion; skin color; gender; nationality; language differences; veteran status; sexual orientation; gender identity; intellectual or developmental disabilities; socioeconomic status; work and behavioral styles; parental status; and the perspectives of each individual shaped by their nation, culture and experiences.

To be inclusive is to leverage diversity by bringing together unique individual backgrounds to collectively and more effectively address the issues facing our communities, in ways that right injustice, create equity, and celebrate us all.

The United Way recognizes that structural racism, ethnic and cultural discrimination and other forms of oppression have contributed to racial disparities that have existed in the past and persist in the present. The United Way acknowledges those inequities are the result of policies and practices that work to marginalize entire populations of people. The United Way unequivocally denounces race-based, ethnic, and cultural discrimination because they undermine the well-being and vitality of our communities. The United Way will work with public and private partners to co-create solutions that ensure everyone has the resources, support, opportunities, and networks they need to thrive. The United Way commits to leveraging its assets (e.g., convening, strategic investments, awareness building, advocacy) to create more equitable communities.
