VITA Free Tax Program

The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program provides FREE Federal, State, and Local tax preparation and filing by Certified IRS Tax Preparers for individuals and families in our area.


January 29th - April 6th, 2024

New this year! 3 Site Locations are now available and located in Bloomsburg, Danville, and Shamokin.

Appointment dates and times vary based on location. Both in-person and drop-off appointments are available at the Columbia and Northumberland sites. Only Drop-off appointments are available at the Montour Site.

Important Information

    • In-person and drop-off appointments will be available starting January 29th, 2024. Appointments must be scheduled in advance online or by calling the phone numbers below:

      • Columbia/Montour County: (570) 416-2704

        • Leave a message, and a volunteer will call you back within 24-48 hrs to schedule your appointment. You can also book your appointment online. Just scan the QR Code or visit svuw.org/vita to book online.

      • Northumberland County: (570) 644-6575 Ext. 0

    • Availability does vary based on location. Please check our online scheduler for available dates and times and to schedule an appointment.

    • If you would prefer to schedule your appointment via phone, please call (570) 416-2704. Leave a message with your name and contact information. A volunteer will call you back to schedule your appointment. Please allow 24-48 hours for the return call.

    • In-person appointments will take approximately one hour.

    • Drop-off appointments will take approximately 15 minutes. Your tax documents will be scanned and then returned to you. Please allow two weeks for processing.

    • No walk-in appointments are available.

    In-person and drop-off Appointments are available.

    1. Photo ID and Social Security card (for you, your spouse, and any dependents you plan to claim on your taxes)

    2. Bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit (can be found on a check)

    3. Form W-2, W-2G, and 1099-MISC from all employers

    4. All Interest and dividend statements (Form 1099-R)

    5. Social Security Benefit Statement, if applicable (Form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S)

    6. Health Insurance Marketplace Statement, if applicable (Form 1095-A)

    7. Daycare expenses with the provider’s EIN and amount paid, if applicable

    8. Any other relevant tax documents and information

    9. You can also bring a copy of last year’s tax return, but it is not necessary for us to complete your 2021 Federal, State, and Local returns.

  • Have your identification cards and all of your tax documents with you, and be prepared to fill out the standard VITA intake form.

    We will follow any state-mandated social distance protocols, should they be issued during the program to ensure the safety of clients and our staff.
