Susquehanna Valley United Way Welcomes Sarah Dobeck Troutman to their Staff.

Welcome Sarah!

Sarah Dobeck Troutman joins the staff of United Way as our Director of Behavioral and Mental Health and is part of our ongoing efforts to improve access to education and treatment.

We had the opportunity to sit down with Sarah to discuss her new role and how she came to be at the United Way.

  1. Where are you originally from and what brought you to the area?

I grew up in the Nescopeck/Berwick area. I moved to Bloomsburg during my college years and am now settled in my forever home with my Husband in rural Catawissa, an area that much of my family and my favorite childhood memories are from. I love the Susquehanna Valley and never plan to leave. I love the people, the small towns, the mountains, the wildlife, and the outdoor recreation.

  2. What is your motto in life?

    Keep Fighting the Good Fight.

  3. Do you have any pets?

I have 5 cats, Bianca, Chloe, Mireya, Molly, and Gracie.

  4. How did you come to work for the United Way?

For the past 10-plus years, I have worked in our region in the field of human services. This includes work in inpatient treatment, outpatient counseling, local Treatment Court programs, and the local school districts. I specialize in resource coordination, implementation of new programs, networking, advocacy, education, referral support, grassroots and evidence-based programs, and coalition work. Additionally, I have worked extensively with both youth and adults in the areas of trauma, grief, anxiety, stress, substance use, and crisis interventions. For the past several years, I've collaborated with the Susquehanna Valley United Way in these efforts and was excited to join their team full-time in this newly created position.

  5. LIVE UNITED is a theme of the United Way. The idea being that when we all come together around important causes like Early Education, Mental Health, Substance Use Disorder, etc. – we can do great things. What does “Living United” look like for you?

"Living United" means that we work together to lift up every single one of our neighbors and communities. For me, this means focusing on addressing the mental health crisis within our 5-counties in meaningful ways with all of our community partners. It means that I wake up every day, ready to collaborate, advocate, educate, and fight for the best mental health possible for every person who lives within our 5-county region of the Susquehanna Valley.

Sarah will be offering community trainings and education as well as program consultations and implementation support. She will also provide assistance in navigating the local and state behavioral and mental health systems and can give local provider and resource information.

You can reach Sarah Monday - Friday from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM at stroutman@svuw.org or (570) 854-3879. You can also visit our new United in Behavioral Health webpage to learn more.
